INVOCATION TO THE ALMIGHTY:

The news session was inaugurated on 22 July with the Prakash of Sh. Guru Granth Sahib and Path of Sh. Sukhmani Sahib ji. The college managing committee, the staff and the students prayed. To God for his blessings and pledged to work hard for the development of the institution. Addressing the students S. Balbir Singh Rajewal, president of the college managing committee opined that we can improve and retain our culture only through education. He appealed to the students to work hard for success in life and do not become a victim of social evils like drugs, communalism and violence. Dr. Jaspal Singh, principal of the college congratulated the students on the inauguration of the new session and expected them to follow the teachings of our Great Gurus. He advised them to work regularly and honestly. Prof. Rustam Devi, dean academics, apprised the students of the academic system of the university and rules and regulations of the college. Prof. Paramjit Kaur, incharge Girls’ wing told about various welfare schemes and facilities floated for the girl students. The students were mesmerized by the holy kirtan of Sh. Sukhmani Sahib. Dr. Kulwinder Kaur dwelt on various cultural activities carried on in the college.

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES:

The cultural activities unit of the college performed miraculously under the guidance of Dr. Kulwinder Kaur.

Zonal Youth Festival:
The Panjab University Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival of Ludhiana Zone-A was held at Kamala Lohtia College Ludhiana w.e.f. October 3 to October6, 2015 in which 165 students of the college participated in 56 items. The performance of the students was highly praiseworthy. College students bagged 27 positions in different items as follows:

1st position was won by the following students:
Rattan Singh in Percussion( Tabla ); Assa Singh in Classical Music Vocal; Vaar Siging Team Prize; Kuljit Kaur Vaar singing individual prize; Navjot Kaur in Guddiayan Patole Making; Assa Singh individual prize in Group Shabad and Rattan Singh individual prize in Indian Orchestra.

2nd position was bagged by the following students:
Kali singing: team prize; Kulmeet Singh in Non-Percussion; Indian Orchesta: team prize; Skit: team prize; Balwinder Kaur in clay modeling; Ambreet Kaur individual prize in Giddha and Karanbeer Singh individual prize in folk dance luddi.

3rd position was won by the following students:
Jagdeep Singh in Poem Writing; HarkiratKaur in Tokri making; Kuljeet Kaur in folk song; Kavishri: team prize; Group shabad: team prize; Karamjit Kaur in Mitti de khidone; Manpreet Kaur in Chhikoo making; Harvinder Singh in Kartooning; Jaskirat Singh individual prize in Indian Orchestra; Manpreet Kaur individual prize in Play; Haryanvi dance: team prize; Mime: team prize and Lovepreet Singh individual prize in Skit.

S. Balbir Singh Rajewal, president of Managing Committee, DR. Jaspal Singh Principal and all the members of the managing committee Sh. Jagmohan singh Director congratulated the students, the staff members and the coaches and honoured them for this exemplary achievement.

INTER-ZONAL YOUTH AND HERITAGE FESTIVAL:

College students participated in five items, namely Classical music vocal, Vaar singing, Guddian patole making, Instrumental music-percussion and Clay modeling in 57th Panjab University Inter Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival held at Dev Samaj Collegefor Women, Ferozpur city w.e.f.27th to 30th October, 2015. Students Sumanjeet kaur, Kuljeet kaur won first position in Vaar singing, and Rattan singh won second position in instrument music - percussion.

Punjab State Inter Varsity Youth and Heritage Festival:

Vaar singing team(Sumanjeet kaur and kuljeet kaur) of the college bagged 1st position in Punjab State Inter university Youth and Heritage festival held at Baba Banda Singh Bahadur college Fatehgarh Sahib. They were felicitated by the President and office bearers of managing committee, and the principal Dr. Jaspal singh for this proud achievement. The Youth Welfare Department of Panjab University conferred Roll of Honour on these students.

National Cadet Corps (N.C.C)

The N.C.C. unit of the college performed many activities during the session under the guidance of N.C.C officer Dr. Harish Kumar.

  • 22 cadets participated in the Parade on Independence Day celebrated in Tehsil Samrala.
  • 22 cadets participated in Republic Day parade.
  • 12 cadets participated in Combined Annual Training Camp held at Malout in October 2015.
  • Two cadets attended M. I. C. at Lakashdeep in November 2015.
  • 7 cadets attended T. S. C. in January 2016.
  • One cadet attended C.A.T.C. at Malout in January 2016.
  • 10 cadets passed 'B' Certificate examination.
  • 3 cadets passed 'C' certificate examination.
  • During the camps cadets won 12 gold and 8 silver medals.

Exhibition of Artifacts:

A three day exhibition of various items was organized by the Home Science and Fashion Designing Department w.e.f. February 13 to 15 - 2016 in the college campus. The students set up several stalls on Food Science, personality development, paintings, articles made of waste material, traditional embroidered items, knitted items and other antique items. It attracted a large number of visitors especially women and children. The exhibition was inaugurated by Sh. Harish Khare, Editor-in-chief, The Tribune. S. Balbir Singh Rajewal, president of the college, Prof Jagmohan Singh, Director and Dr. Jaspal Singh, principal were present on the occasion and praised the efforts made by the students and the teachers of the department.

Extension Lecture on Health and Balanced Diet:

An extension lecture on Health and Balanced Diet was organized on January 12 2016. Dr. S.C. Sharma, Assistant Director, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Samrala dwelt on the harmful effects of pesticides and stressed on the need of organic farming. Prof Avneet Kaur informed the students about various short term vocational courses in agriculture and gardening. Prof. Kanwaljit Kaur told about the importance of balanced diet. She advised that the use of amla, alsi (linseed) and sesame is beneficial for health. The students gained a lot from the lectures. The Dr. Jaspal Singh, principal thanked the guests.

INTER-CLASS COMPETITIONS:

A competition in the preparation of different recipes was organized on 8th February 2016. 30 students participated in this competition. Harkirat Kaur of B.A. final year won the first position and Amandeep Kaur bagged the second prize.
On 12th February 2016 a rongoli competition was held. 28 students participated in this contest. Kirandeep Kaur of B.A. 1 was declared first, Harwinder Kaur of B. A. 3 second and Ramandeep Kaur of B.A. 1 third.

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (N.S.S):

The N.S.S unit of the college functions under the guidance of Dr. Kulwinder Kaur. It remained active throughout the year performing different activities.
A seven day camp was organized from December 21 to 28, 2015 in the college and nearby village, Balala. The camp was inaugurated by Dr. Harjinder Singh Walia, Head, Journalism and Mass-Communication Depatt. Panjab University, Chandigarh. Sh. Aalamdeep Singh, Senior Vice President, Sh.Jaspreet Singh advocate, vice president, Prof. Jagmohan Singh, Director, Dr. Jaspal Singh, Principal, Sh. Jatinder Singh Joga, Sarpanch of village Balala and many staff members were present on the occasion. Dr. Walia dwelt on the importance of trees while addressing the volunteers. He advised the students to fix a target in life and make efforts to achieve it. The theme of the camp was "Dharti maa di eh pukar kro rukhan naal shingar". The students visited village Balala on the second day and launched a cleanliness drive there. On the third day of the camp Brahma Kumaris sister Sars, sister Neelam and Kumari Sarita addressed the students. They advised the students to protect nature and adopt the moral values in life. Dr. K. K. Sharma, incharge N.S.S unit, A. S. college Khanna also shared his views with the students. The volunteers cleaned the college campus on the fourth day and visited Gurudwara Sh. Ranwa Sahib. They visited Sh. Bhaini Sahib on the fifth day and were introduced to the history and rich culture of Namdharis. A play about drug addiction “Hun ta Jagna Paina” was staged by Sirmour Theatre on the sixth day. It conveyed the message that the youth should avoid the use of drugs. The camp was concluded with a cultural programme in which students presented various items. Dr. Yograj, Coordinator, N S S , Panjab University, Chandigarh was the chief guest. He gave away the medals and certificates to the students. Dr. Kulwinder Kaur, Coordinator N S S camp thanked all the guests, volunteers and teachers.

Blood Donation Camp:

The N.S.S unit of the college organized a Blood Donation camp in the college on February 20, 2016 under the leadership of Dr. Kulwinder Kaur. A team of Civil Hospital, Ludhiana lead by Dr. Gurinderdeep Singh Grewal collaborated with the college. Fifty units of blood were collected in the camp. Sh. Balbir Singh Rajewal, president of the college said that blood donation is the greatest charity for humanity. Dr. Jaspal Singh, principal told about the importance of blood donation and encouraged the students to donate blood to save others’ lives.

TREE PLANTATION:

The Green Brigade of the college launched a compaign of tree plantation in the college. Ms. Anuprita Johl, (PCS), S D M Samrala inaugurated the function on 31-03-2016. She applauded the efforts made by the college for tree plantation in order to save the environment.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY:

A function was organized in the Girls’ wing on 8th March 2016 to celebrate the International women’s day. Many students shared their views on the role of women in society, problems faced by women and crime on women. They also suggested what governments and society should do for the upliftment of women. Prof. Paramjit Kaur Sobti showed her concern for the declining female ratio in India and advised the students to become self dependent and help other women to improve themselves. The principal, Dr. Jaspal Singh admired the performance of girl students of the college in different fields. Girls who won prizes in academics, cultural activities and sports were honoured on the occasion. Other female teachers of the college too addressed the students.
